Ingredients
Scale
1 pre-made 9-inch pie crust
1 pound ground beef
1 small onion, finely chopped
1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1/2 cup all-purpose flour (or Bisquick for a fluffy crust)
1 teaspoon baking powder (if not using Bisquick)
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 cup milk
2 large eggs
1/4 cup ketchup (for mixing)
1 tablespoon yellow mustard (for mixing)
Optional toppings: extra cheese, pickle slices
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Place the pie crust into a 9-inch pie plate.
In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and chopped onion until the beef is fully browned. Drain off all excess grease thoroughly.
Stir the cooked beef mixture, 1/2 cup of the cheddar cheese, ketchup, and mustard into the skillet. Spread this mixture evenly into the prepared pie crust.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour (or Bisquick), baking powder (if using), salt, and pepper.
In another bowl, whisk the milk and eggs until combined. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
Pour the batter evenly over the beef and cheese mixture in the pie crust.
Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of cheddar cheese over the top of the batter.
Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the center is set.
Let the Cheeseburger Pie cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving with optional toppings like pickles.
Notes
For a fluffier, biscuit-like crust, substitute the flour, baking powder, milk, and eggs with 1 1/2 cups of Bisquick mix combined with 1 cup of milk.
You can prepare the beef filling ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator for up to two days before assembling the pie.
Serve this hearty hamburger bake with a side salad or your favorite burger condiments like extra ketchup and mustard.
