Make this crunchy, sweet, and salty Christmas Puppy Chow for a festive, no-bake holiday snack mix perfect for parties or edible gifts.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups Chex cereal (Rice or Corn)
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups powdered sugar, divided
  • 1/2 cup Christmas M&M’s (red and green)
  • 1/4 cup holiday sprinkles (red and green)

Instructions

  1. Place the Chex cereal in a very large bowl. Set aside.
  2. In a medium microwave-safe bowl, combine the chocolate chips, peanut butter, and butter. Microwave on high for 1 minute. Stir until smooth. If needed, microwave for another 30 seconds and stir again until completely melted and combined.
  3. Stir in the vanilla extract into the chocolate mixture.
  4. Pour the chocolate mixture over the cereal in the large bowl. Gently stir until all the cereal is evenly coated.
  5. Place 1 1/2 cups of the powdered sugar into a large zip-top bag. Add half of the coated cereal mixture to the bag. Seal the bag and shake well until the cereal is completely coated with sugar. Transfer the coated cereal to a large baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Repeat with the remaining cereal and powdered sugar.
  6. While the sugar coating is still slightly sticky, immediately sprinkle the Christmas M&M’s and holiday sprinkles over the cereal pieces. Gently toss to distribute the candies and colors.
  7. Allow the Christmas Puppy Chow to cool and set completely, about 30 minutes, before serving or storing. This is a quick, no bake dessert.

Notes

  • For gifting, layer the finished chow in decorative mason jars and attach a printable tag for a simple Christmas edible gift.
  • You can substitute the M&M’s with crushed peppermint candies for a peppermint bark puppy chow variation.
  • Store this festive puppy chow in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week.
