Ingredients
Scale
1 can (8 ounces) refrigerated crescent roll dough or puff pastry
1/2 cup pizza sauce or marinara sauce
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup mini pepperoni slices
1/4 teaspoon Italian seasoning (optional)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190 degrees Celsius). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Unroll the crescent roll dough onto a clean surface. If using crescent sheets, press the seams together to form one large rectangle.
Spread the pizza sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border along one long edge.
Sprinkle the mozzarella cheese and pepperoni slices over the sauce. Lightly dust with Italian seasoning, if using.
Starting from the long edge opposite the unsealed border, tightly roll the dough into a log.
Use a sharp knife to slice the log into 1/2-inch thick pinwheels. You should get about 16 to 20 pinwheels.
Place the pinwheels cut-side up on the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 1 inch between them.
Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
For make-ahead party food, you can assemble the rolls, slice them, and freeze them on a tray. Bake directly from frozen, adding a few extra minutes to the cook time.
You can substitute the pepperoni with cooked, crumbled sausage or chopped cooked ham for variation.
Serve these savory pastry rolls with extra marinara sauce for dipping.
