Make this simple, creamy whipped ricotta dip for an elegant appetizer that comes together fast. Top it with hot honey for a perfect sweet and spicy balance.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 15 ounces whole milk ricotta cheese, drained if watery
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil, plus more for drizzling
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped
  • 1/4 cup hot honey (or regular honey mixed with a pinch of red pepper flakes)
  • Crusty bread or crackers, for serving

Instructions

  1. Place the drained ricotta cheese, 2 tablespoons of olive oil, salt, and pepper into a food processor.
  2. Process the mixture for 2 to 3 minutes, stopping to scrape down the sides as needed, until the ricotta is completely smooth, light, and airy.
  3. Transfer the whipped ricotta dip to a shallow serving bowl.
  4. Drizzle the top generously with the hot honey.
  5. Sprinkle the chopped fresh basil over the honey.
  6. Drizzle a small amount of extra olive oil over the top for shine.
  7. Serve immediately with slices of crusty bread or your favorite crackers for dipping.

Notes

  • If you do not have a food processor, you can use a hand mixer or stand mixer. Whip the ricotta for 5 minutes until lightened, then gently fold in the remaining ingredients by hand.
  • For a savory variation, skip the hot honey and top with chopped sun-dried tomatoes, roasted garlic, and fresh herbs.
  • This creamy cheese appetizer tastes best when served within an hour of making.
