Make this easy Oreo Dirt Cake, a no-bake dessert featuring creamy layers of pudding, cream cheese, and crushed Oreos. It is a quick, crowd-pleasing treat perfect for any gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 container (8 ounces) frozen whipped topping, thawed, divided
  • 1 package (3.9 ounces) instant chocolate pudding mix
  • 3 cups cold milk
  • 1 package (14.3 ounces) Oreo cookies, crushed (about 30 cookies)
  • 1 package (3.9 ounces) instant vanilla pudding mix (optional, for a lighter layer)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and powdered sugar together until smooth. Fold in half of the thawed whipped topping until combined. Set aside.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk the instant chocolate pudding mix with the cold milk for two minutes until it begins to thicken. If using vanilla pudding, prepare it separately according to package directions and chill briefly.
  3. Crush the Oreo cookies until they resemble fine dirt. You can use a food processor or place them in a sealed bag and crush them with a rolling pin. Set aside about 1 cup of crumbs for the topping.
  4. In a large serving dish or individual cups, begin layering the dessert. Spread half of the cream cheese mixture evenly over the bottom.
  5. Sprinkle half of the crushed Oreos over the cream cheese layer.
  6. Spread the chocolate pudding mixture (and vanilla pudding, if using) over the Oreo layer.
  7. Top the pudding with the remaining cream cheese mixture.
  8. Spread the remaining crushed Oreos over the top layer to create the ‘dirt’ effect.
  9. Gently spread the remaining half of the whipped topping over the crushed Oreos, or reserve it to dollop on top before serving for a cleaner look.
  10. Chill the dirt cake for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the layers to set.

Notes

  • For a fun presentation, serve this dessert in small terracotta pots or clear plastic cups to mimic a garden look.
  • You can substitute the milk with half-and-half or heavy cream when mixing the pudding for an even richer, thicker texture.
  • If you want a 7-layer dirt cake, add a layer of chocolate fudge sauce between the pudding and the final cream cheese layer.
