Ingredients
Scale
2 oz Vodka
1 oz Freshly Brewed Espresso, cooled
0.5 oz Coffee Liqueur (like Kahlua)
0.5 oz Peppermint Schnapps
0.5 oz Simple Syrup
Optional: 0.5 oz Heavy Cream or Irish Cream Liqueur for creaminess
For Rim: Crushed Peppermint Candies and Chocolate Syrup
Garnish: 3 Coffee Beans or a small candy cane
Instructions
Prepare the rim: Run a lime wedge around the rim of your chilled martini glass. Dip the rim into a shallow plate of crushed peppermint candies mixed with a small amount of finely crushed chocolate cookies or chocolate syrup for adherence. Set the glass aside.
Brew and cool your espresso. You need one ounce of strong, fresh espresso.
Combine the vodka, cooled espresso, coffee liqueur, peppermint schnapps, simple syrup, and optional cream into a cocktail shaker filled two-thirds full with ice.
Seal the shaker tightly and shake hard for 20 to 30 seconds until the shaker is very cold and a thick layer of foam forms on top. This vigorous shaking creates the signature espresso martini foam.
Strain the mixture into your prepared martini glass.
Garnish with three coffee beans placed on the foam or a small candy cane hooked on the rim. Serve immediately.
Notes
For a richer, mocha flavor, substitute the simple syrup with 0.5 oz of chocolate syrup.
If you do not have peppermint schnapps, you can use a few drops of high-quality peppermint extract mixed with the simple syrup.
Chill your martini glasses in the freezer for at least 15 minutes before mixing to keep the drink colder longer.
