Make this easy honey garlic chicken tonight for a family favorite dinner. This recipe delivers a perfectly sticky, sweet, and savory glaze in under 30 minutes, making it ideal for busy weeknights.
1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs, cut into 1-inch pieces
1 tablespoon olive oil
1/4 cup honey
1/4 cup soy sauce (low sodium preferred)
2 tablespoons rice vinegar
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons cold water (slurry)
Optional garnish: Sesame seeds and sliced green onions
Instructions
Pat the chicken pieces dry with paper towels. Season lightly with salt and pepper.
Heat the olive oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the chicken and cook until browned on all sides and cooked through, about 5 to 7 minutes. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.
In the same skillet, reduce the heat to medium. Add the minced garlic and ginger. Cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn the garlic.
Pour in the honey, soy sauce, and rice vinegar. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.
Stir in the red pepper flakes, if using.
Whisk the cornstarch and cold water together to create a slurry. Slowly pour the slurry into the simmering sauce while stirring constantly. Continue to cook for 1 to 2 minutes until the sauce thickens and becomes glossy.
Return the cooked chicken to the skillet. Toss the chicken pieces until they are fully coated in the sticky honey garlic sauce.
Remove from heat. Serve immediately over rice, garnished with sesame seeds and green onions.
Notes
For extra crispy honey garlic chicken, lightly dredge the chicken pieces in cornstarch before searing them in step 2.
If you prefer using chicken thighs, the cooking time might increase slightly to ensure they are tender.
This sauce pairs well with steamed broccoli or white rice for a complete meal.
