Make this simple, creamy strawberry milk from scratch using fresh strawberries and a quick homemade syrup. It is a refreshing pink drink perfect for kids and adults.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 cups milk (dairy or oat milk for a creamy, dairy-free option)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Combine the sliced strawberries, sugar, and water in a small saucepan.
  2. Heat the mixture over medium heat. Stir often until the sugar dissolves and the strawberries begin to break down, about 5 to 7 minutes. This creates your strawberry syrup.
  3. Remove the syrup from the heat and let it cool for 10 minutes. You can mash the strawberries further with a fork if you prefer a smoother syrup.
  4. Strain the syrup through a fine-mesh sieve into a bowl, pressing down on the solids to extract all the liquid. Discard the solids or save them for another use.
  5. In a pitcher, combine the cooled strawberry syrup, milk, and vanilla extract. Stir well.
  6. Taste the milk and add more syrup if you want a sweeter, more intense flavor.
  7. Chill the strawberry milk for at least 30 minutes before serving cold. For a cafe style drink at home, serve over ice and top with whipped cream.

Notes

  • For a dairy-free strawberry milk, substitute regular milk with oat milk for extra creaminess.
  • To achieve the layered look of Korean strawberry milk, pour the cold milk into the glass first, then slowly spoon the thick strawberry syrup down the side of the glass.
  • This recipe makes a sweet strawberry syrup that stores well in the refrigerator for up to one week.
